Glass with concave patterns

This entry is reviewed by the "Science Popularization China" Science Encyclopedia Entry Writing and Application Work Project.

Carved glass is glass with concave patterns, and carved patterns are usually not polished. In the process of making glass, injecting crystals can make it extremely crystal clear, hard, and can also carve and grind various patterns,  Glass product .

brief introduction

Carved glass is embossed and processed through molds and machines. The pattern lines produced by machines are few, the structure is simple, the pattern is symmetrical, and the cost is naturally cheap. Another type, also known as ground glass, is made by hand through multiple processes. Its characteristic is that the pattern is not uniform, but it is very complex, delicate, and smooth. No matter what shape the glass is, it shines brightly. Of course, the price of ground glass products is much higher than that of embossed glass products.

Artist Master

The Glass Art Museum located in Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, China. Its founder, Wu Zixiong, is a master of arts and crafts who grew up as a homeless child. Wu Zixiong self-taught and learned extensively, honed day and night, and skillfully mastered the art of glass carving. He doesn't need to draw patterns on the cup, he can use a carving knife as a pen to carve lifelike patterns. The two carved glass palace lanterns in the Zhejiang Hall of the Great Hall of the People in Beijing are one of his representative works. In 1979, his two large glass screens "Tiger Roaring" and "Panda" were selected for exhibition at an international exhibition held in Cameroon. This is the first time a similar Chinese work has been made public abroad. In March 1986, Wu Zixiong was invited to perform live at the "Fantasy World" Chinatown in Breuer, Germany, the largest amusement park in Europe. Wu Zixiong stayed in Germany for nearly a year. At first, he catered to the taste of European and American tourists. Imitating the carving techniques of local glass artists is not appreciated by tourists. He gradually realized that imitation has no way out and must create glass carving works with national characteristics in order to enter the palace of glass carving art. So he incorporated the delicate and freehand style of Chinese painting into the glass carving technique, focusing on creating works that highlight nationalization from style to theme.

Art glass

Art glass includes deep carved glass, painted glass, and shallow carved glass.

Deep carved glass

It is a type of sculpture that carves deep pits inside the glass, with a bumpy and three-dimensional appearance on the front! This type of glass is also quite complex to process. It must be processed on 1CM glass, otherwise the glass will shatter during processing. Generally used for TV background walls and partitions!

Painted glass

It is a pattern drawn with colors on glass, which looks clear, elegant, and appropriate. Also use a TV background wall!

Light carved glass

It is a type of carving shallow pits on glass, which looks much shallower than deep carving and has a flat feeling. This type of glass is also relatively easy to process. Generally used in partitions, screens, sliding doors, etc., it is widely used!
