This "water of life" is the prototype of the early whisky.


The advent of the English continuous still in the 9th century brought Scotch whisky into commercial production. In the second half of the 9th century, Japan began to import raw liquor for blending whisky under the influence of Western distilled liquor technology. In 1933, the founder of Japan's Suntory company, Shinjiro Uai, began to build the first malt whisky factory in Yamazaki Prefecture, just outside of Kyoto. Since then, Japanese whisky has gradually developed and has become one of the major domestic drinks.
