How much do you know about the knowledge of glass?

Since the emergence of commercial glass in the 12th century and its beginning as an industrial material, glass products have entered thousands of households and become an indispensable part of people's daily lives. How much do you know about glass? Today, the editor will take you into the world of glass and get to know different glass products, Glass product  !

1、 What is glass?

Glass is an amorphous inorganic non-metallic material, usually made from various inorganic minerals, such as quartz sand, borax, boric acid, barite, barium carbonate, limestone, feldspar, soda ash, etc., with a small amount of auxiliary materials added. Its main components are silicon dioxide and other oxides. The chemical composition of ordinary glass is Na2SiO3, CaSiO3, SiO2 or Na2O · CaO · 6SiO2, etc. The main component is silicate double salt, which is an amorphous solid with an irregular structure.

2、 Material of glass

Glass products are now widely used in fields such as home furnishing, daily use, architecture, medical treatment, chemistry, electronics, instrumentation, nuclear engineering, etc. Borosilicate glass, lead-free sodium calcium glass, tempered glass and other mainstream glass materials are widely used.

Borosilicate glass is a type of glass that contains 5-13% (m/m) of boron trioxide (B-2O-3) in international standards. It can be divided into high boron and medium low boron glasses based on its boron content.

Compared with common glass, borosilicate glass has no toxic side effects, and its mechanical properties, thermal stability, water resistance, alkali resistance, acid resistance, and other properties are greatly improved. It has the characteristics of good chemical stability, high strength, and sudden temperature difference greater than about 110 ℃. It has good heat resistance and can be safely used in microwaves and ovens.

Glass preservation boxes, glass bowls, pot covers, and other glass products are mostly made of borosilicate glass.

Sodium calcium glass is a type of ordinary glass, mainly composed of silicon dioxide, calcium oxide, and sodium oxide, and is also the most common glass in our daily lives.

Sodium calcium glass is easy to melt and process, has high chemical stability, and is cheap. Therefore, there are generally no special requirements for heat resistance and chemical stability, so it is widely used in ordinary glassware products.

Glass products such as drinking cups, storage tanks, glass bowls, and wine glasses are partially applied with sodium calcium glass.

Tempered glass is a type of reinforced glass that enhances the compressive and impact resistance of ordinary glass by physically or chemically toughening products made of ordinary glass.

Tempered glass can be divided into air-cooled tempering, liquid tempering, and chemical tempering according to different tempering processes. Through complex tempering treatment, a compressive stress is formed on the surface of the glass. When the glass is subjected to external forces, the surface stress will offset some of the external forces, weakening the external forces on the glass itself, thereby improving its load-bearing capacity.

Glass products such as fresh-keeping boxes, hot water cups, and storage tanks are mostly made of tempered glass.

In addition to the commonly used types of glass in household products mentioned above, there are also common materials such as crystal glass, crystal ceramic glass, and microcrystalline glass, which are used to manufacture products such as microcrystalline glass pots and high foot red wine cups.

3、 Advantages of Glass Products

1. Glass materials have good barrier properties, which can prevent oxygen and other gases from invading the substances inside the container, and prevent the volatile components of the substances inside the container from volatilizing into the air.

2. Glass products can be reused multiple times to reduce packaging costs, and glass raw materials are cheap and production costs are low.

3. Glass products are safe, hygienic, transparent, and easy to clean.

4. Glass products have stable properties, good corrosion resistance and acid resistance, which can be sterilized at high temperatures and stored at low temperatures, making them suitable for storing various types of food.
