In still life photography, photographing glass objects is a technicality. You have to showcase their airy textures and vibrant colors, with sharp contours, while also controlling surface reflections. To achieve the above goals, you must be able to use large softboxes as much as possible, avoid point light sources, and choose different backgrounds, and take corresponding lighting schemes according to the background,Glass product   .

The long strip of reflection on the body is the light and shadow of the long large soft box that is mapped. If it is a point light source, there will be a dazzling reflection on the screen.

The main methods of photographing glass products are as follows:

The first method: white background with black border

The characteristic of light-colored background is that it has strong reflective ability.

The direct light is reflected on the white background and illuminates the glass. The blackboards are arranged on both sides of the glass, which will make black lines appear on the two sides of the glass.

The second method: black background and white border

A dark background is characterized by almost no reflection of light.

So, you need to light from the sides with a flash softbox, or light on the top, and place reflectors on the sides to outline the top and sides in white. However, you may need to adjust the angle and orientation of the light source several times to control the amount of white fringing to get the best shot.

cup photography ideas

After mastering the basic light method of glass shooting, let's take a look at what effects can be achieved with glass. If you have a picture style you like, you might as well try to shoot it.

1: Make the cups colorful through drinks Since most of the glasses are colorless and transparent, in order to make the picture more colorful, you can pour drinks on them before shooting.

2: Make a pose with a mug If you are creative enough, you can pose with a mug in different poses and shoot. In order to make the transparent cup stand out more in the picture, it is a good way to shoot with backlight on a white background, or shoot with side backlight on a black background.

3: Applying paint to the water droplets in the cup When the paint is added to the water droplets in the cup, the "ink dyeing" effect formed in the water is unpredictable, and a very beautiful picture can be taken. If you shoot multiple cups, it is recommended to drop paints of different colors, so that the picture has color changes;

 4: Dyeing a glass with light Transparent glass and white paper are a property, and what color you give it can show what color. Therefore, we can make the glass present various colors through different light source colors.

5: Express the law and rhythm through the full composition. If there are enough cups at home or in some water bars, you can take pictures like the picture below. Use neatly placed cups to express its sense of regularity and rhythm.

6: Use the wrong vision to shoot creative pictures to connect the water glass with other scenes through the wrong vision method, and often get a unique visual experience.

7: Pouring water can make the picture more vivid. When pouring water into the cup, the water flow and the bubbles generated in the cup can add some movement to the picture. If some water can be poured out of the cup, the picture effect will be better.

8: Make the water splash A lot of commercials are shot using a similar method. Throw a fruit or other object into the water glass and record the moment the fruit enters the water and splashes.

This kind of picture is usually frozen through the flash. Of course, you can also shoot with high-speed shutter and high-speed continuous shooting. No matter which shooting method you use, remember to use backlight or side backlight as much as possible to make the water more transparent.
