First, the selection of window glass types



In fact, there are many types of window glass, but we need to classify them according to different functions in order to select the appropriate window glass.



From the perspective of glass and light, it is recommended that you choose Low-E glass and one-way perspective glass.



Low-E glass can block ultraviolet rays and send other light into the room, achieving the effect of allowing the healthiest sunlight to enter the room. From a privacy perspective, it is better to choose one-way perspective glass in order to avoid seeing the interior from the outside as much as possible.



From a safety perspective, it is recommended that you choose tempered glass.



For high-rise window glass, generally speaking, tempered glass is required for exterior windows larger than one square meter. Because tempered glass is very good at explosion protection, even if the glass is broken, it will not have edges and corners, and will not cause harm to the human body.



From the perspective of sound insulation performance, it is recommended that you choose double glass or multilayer glass.



Because one of the biggest goals of installing windows is to achieve indoor thermal insulation, and in addition, to achieve indoor sound insulation.



From the perspective of thermal and sound insulation effects, double-layer glass is much better than thin glass, while three-layer glass is better than double-layer glass. Therefore, my personal suggestion is to choose double glass as the first choice. If it is particularly cold in the north, it is recommended to choose three or even four layers of glass.



Second, the selection of window glass thickness



Different thicknesses correspond to different glass types. Currently, common household window glass is usually 5mm, 6mm, or even 8mm. However, my personal opinion is that glass is actually too thick, its performance is not necessarily particularly good, and the price is higher.



If the window is a single layer of glass, the glass should be thicker (more than 6mm) as much as possible



For common 4 or 5mm glass, it is not recommended to choose. Because single-layer glass must have many properties that it does not have, it is better to choose a thicker glass.



If the window is double glazed, the thickness of 6mm is the most reasonable choice.



For example, 6mm+9A+6mm double-layer insulating glass is commonly used and is a relatively common type of glass in the market, so the price will be relatively lower when purchasing.



If the window has three or even four layers of glass, there is no need to choose a particularly thick one.



A thickness of 5mm can be selected for three or four layers of glass, such as 5mm+9A+5mm+9A+5mm three-layer insulating glass, which is also a relatively common type.
