Common sense of glass products and how to use them correctly

Glassware is a necessity in our daily life. Understanding the following knowledge and using it correctly according to different glass materials will not reduce the service life and beauty of glass products.

1) Soda-lime glass

Soda-lime glass is the most commonly used in our daily life. The ordinary window glass, mirror, glassware and glass handicrafts we usually use are basically soda-lime glass.

The simplest way to distinguish by visual inspection is that soda-lime glass has a slight color difference of green, blue or yellow,   glass cookware   .

Ordinary glass cannot be put in the microwave oven, and it may be broken if it is heated at 70 degrees. Therefore, it is better to put a small amount of hot water into ordinary glassware in winter, shake it and then pour hot water into it, so as to avoid cracking due to excessive temperature difference.

2) High borosilicate glass

High borosilicate glass is also known as borosilicate glass. Common products include laboratory utensils (test tubes, beakers, etc.), tea sets, microwave and oven utensils, etc.

The simplest way to distinguish by visual inspection is: high borosilicate glass is crystal clear and transparent, basically without color deviation.

High borosilicate glass is also heat-resistant glass, which can be used in microwave ovens and ovens, and can withstand a transient temperature difference of 150 degrees at least.

3) Lead crystal glass

Lead crystal glass, also known as crystal glass, is made by adding about 24% lead oxide PbO into soda-lime glass.

Lead crystal glass has high hardness and wear resistance, large specific gravity and heavy hand feeling, and high refractive index (it can transmit the multicolor spectrum). It is the best material for making advanced utensils, lighting and handicrafts.

The heat-resistant temperature of lead crystal glass is the same as that of ordinary glass, so try not to use it to hold overheated food.

4) Tempered glass

Tempered glass, also known as strengthened glass, is made of soda-lime glass by quenching or air cooling under specific technological conditions. Common products include building glass, window glass, screen glass, microwave and oven ware.

Tempered glass has high impact strength, large bending strength and good thermal stability. When it is damaged by ultra-strong impact, the fragments are scattered and fine particles without sharp edges and corners.

The heat-resistant temperature of tempered glass is 3-5 times that of ordinary glass, but tempered glass has the possibility of 3 ‰ self-explosion, while ordinary glass has no possibility of self-explosion.

Because glass is inherently brittle and has no strong impact resistance, even tempered glass tableware should be protected from impact as much as possible.

Do not use steel wire balls when cleaning any glass products daily. Because the glass surface will be damaged during friction, the strength of glass products will be affected to a certain extent, and the service life and beauty will be reduced.
